On December 24, the first phase of the five-day International Chinese Training Camp (Laos) was successfully completed. The training was completed by the team of International Chinese Education with four teachers from SUCC, offering the Chinese training service for the students from Babbasa Technical College, Laos. As the first cooperation project since the founding of SUCC overseas base (Laos) for the promotion of the training themed “Chinese + Vocational Skills”, this training has kicked a good start to help Lao students to understand urban construction, know about Shanghai, learn Chinese language and experience Chinese culture.

This course started with self-introductions in Chinese, followed by a survey of SUCC and Shanghai, before it extended to Chinese culture. Through learning Chinese, students had a better understanding of campus life, the custom of Shanghai, the names of Chinese people, Chinese geography, the way to address Chinese, the Chinese zodiac symbols, and various traditional Chinese festivals. Considering that the students are just beginners of Chinese, the courseware is mainly composed of vivid pictures and videos. The teachers used the most simple and clear Chinese in their teaching and leave enough opportunities for the students to practice the language. After the five-day course, all the students submitted their videos of a complete self-introduction, in which many of them even expressed their strong willingness to study in our school after their self-introductions.

This training represents the 6th phase of the International Chinese Training Camp by SUCC. Through online Chinese training for students from countries like Thailand and Egypt, the team of our faculty has accumulated rich experience in the online teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. The team of International Chinese Education, jointly established creatively by the Department of International Exchange and the Department of Basic Education has grown into a team of high-level international Chinese education after practicing their teaching skills through collective teaching and research, lesson preparation and reflection in less than one year, and has been highly praised in the 6th Chinese Training Camp for Thailand, Egypt and Laos. Through the education of the Chinese language, SUCC has helped to communicate among international friends, spread Chinese culture, further promote the connection among the people of countries along the route of the Belt and Road, and deepen international cooperation in vocational education.
