From November 12 to 23, the first-phase China-UK Teachers Training Programme of SUCC was successfully carried out at the Yangpu Campus. More than 20 teachers of four programs—Architectural Engineering Technology (the School of Civil & Transportation Engineering), Construction Cost (the School of Construction Economics & Management), Architectural Design (the School of Architecture & Environment Art) and Computer Application Technology (the School of Electromechanical Engineering & Information) received a two-week professional training provided by a team of experts from the UK NPTC.

This teacher training is one of the sub-projects of SUCC’s Sino-UK cooperation projects as well as a positive measure for SUCC’s internationalization of the teaching staff. The project will be completed in three phases in one year, is mainly carried out in the form of British experts’ face-to-face guidance, online meeting, teaching observation, etc., and is cantered on evidence-based education, action research, apprenticeship and so on. After completing all the courses, the teachers will obtain a CPGE certificate (an internationally recognized Certificate for Post Graduate Education) after passing the examinations.

The pure English training was offered in small-class mode. After the first-day icebreaking activity, the classroom atmosphere was active, and the results were remarkable. The questionnaire survey of the participating teachers showed that all the teachers were highly satisfied with the training and felt full of rewards. Some teachers also put forward valuable suggestions for the follow-up training content. Everyone said that this training expanded their pedagogy knowledge, led to the transformation of teaching concepts, and improved their language ability. They wished the training would make more exploration in subject teaching methods and the localized application of international experience.

After the end of the training courses on November 23, the International Cooperation Division of SUCC carefully planned a Farewell Dinner. All the participating teachers and the experts made dumplings in the faculty restaurant; the team of experts from the United Kingdom personally experienced Chinese characteristic activities, such as making dumplings, making wonton and making hand-pulled noodles. The activities marked a warm period for the two-week training.
