On March 30th, the Nursing Skills Competition for Higher Vocational Colleges of the 8th Shanghai “Starlight Contest” Vocational Colleges Vocational Skills Competition was held in the Fengxian Campus of SUCC. There were 9 vocational colleges in Shanghai participating in the Competition, and the Competition was also the selection competition of the 2019 National Vocational Colleges Skills Competition.
The Competition was divided into two parts--the case analysis competition and the technical operation competition. The length of the case analysis competition was 30 minutes, while the duration of the technical operation competition was 22 minutes. Regarding the technical operation competition, several nursing experts were employed as the judges of this competition. Besides, a total of 4 assessment sites were set up, including the health assessment room, the treatment room, the rescue room and the ward. In the health assessment room, a contestant evaluated the current status of a patient according to the case provided by the Competition, and listed the main nursing measures for the prioritized nursing problem; in the treatment room, a contestant bond up the right ankle for a right ankle sprain case; in the rescue room, a contestant performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the patient; in the ward, a contestant implemented 3 nursing techniques (incl. transfusion based on an intravenous indwelling needle) according to the patient case.
The competition order, including the lot-drawing of the competition teams, the supervision of the competition process and the registration of the competition results, was maintained by a third-party supervisor appointed by the Education Commission to ensure the fairness and justice of the Competition.
This Competition aimed to comprehensively assess the professionalism, critical thinking ability and basic clinical nursing skills and operation levels of the contestants, lead higher vocational schools to adapt to the current situation of the industry and technology development trends, promote the education and teaching reform of the nursing program, construct a school-enterprise cooperation platform for cultivation of high-quality nursing talents, enhance social recognition of vocational education, and train nursing talents who could successfully enter nursing positions and be competent in clinical work.
