Thanks to the previous preparations and great efforts, the first 2018 Shanghai “Skills Training of Elderly Nursing Care in Line with the Standard of the World Skills Competition” was held in Fengxian Campus on November 9th, drawing over 20 teachers of elderly caring from nine universities and colleges to participate. It was a result in keeping with the collective arrangements made by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai elderly caring platforms in universities and colleges. People attending the opening ceremony of the training include Zhao Jian, the Deputy Director of the Higher Education Department of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Guo Hongtao, the Vice President of the college, Professor Shen Xiaoping, the Vice President of Shanghai Sipo Polytechnic, and Ye Meng, the Vice President of the Health Technology and Nursing College, Shanghai Sipo Polytechnic. The opening ceremony was hosted by Yang Lei, the Vice President of the Health and Social Care College.
On behalf of the college, Guo Hongtao opened the ceremony with a brief welcome to all the attendants. Following that, Professor Shen Xiaoping explained how significant it would be to foster elderly care education in line with the standard of the World Skills Competition with reference to the EU-China project on tuning higher education quality that launched by the Ministry of Education. In the end, Zhao Jian pointed out that as Shanghai’s population is getting increasingly older, it becomes very impressive to develop elderly nursing education and cultivate relevant talents. He also said that the training, meeting the standard of the World Skills Competition, would push for reforms of curriculums and classroom teaching, which would in turn improve education quality and provide the city with more professional talents of elderly nursing.
The skills training for elderly nursing in line with the standard of “Heath and Social Care” project of the World Skills Competition is part of the efforts the college made by following the spirit of the “Shanghai Modern Vocational Education System Construction Plan (2015-2030)” and the “Shanghai Elderly Care Team Construction (Special Project) Plan (2015-2020). The training workshop is conducive to the reform and internationalization of the city’s elderly care education and talent cultivation, and will empower the elderly care community to learn from advanced philosophies, standards and assessment system of skills upheld by the World Skills Competition. That is how we can improve the training mode of elderly care personnel and advance the cultivation of quality talents in the field of elderly service and health care.
