On March 24th, the Construction Engineering Graph Reading Competition for Higher Vocational Schools of Shanghai “Starlight Contest” was held in the Baoshan Campus of SUCC. A total of 12 teams from 6 vocational colleges participated in the Competition.
The competition was jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the Shanghai Education Development Foundation and the Shanghai Private Education Development Foundation. The Research Office of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences, the Shanghai Occupational Skill Testing Authority, and Shanghai Science & Technology Museum jointly organized the Competition. This Competition was also the selection competition for the 2019 National Vocational College Skills Competition.
At the opening ceremony, Vice-President Yang Xiufang delivered a welcome speech. Xu Guoliang, a researcher at the Higher Education Department of the former Municipal Education Commission, explained the spirit of the Competition, and placed high hopes on the contestants. Professor Zhao Yan (the chief judge from Heilongjiang College of Construction) read the rules and notes. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhang Hong (the Party Secretary of the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering).
The Construction Engineering Graph Reading Competition was divided into the graph reading section and the drawing section. The duration of the whole competition was five hours. Regarding the content and work intensity, it was highly close to the actual construction-related jobs, allowing the student contestants to directly experience the future skill challenges of the profession. The entire competition order, including the lot-drawing of the competition teams, the supervision of the competition process and the registration of the competition results, was maintained by a third-party supervisor appointed by the Education Commission to ensure the fairness and justice of the Competition.
The Skills Competition aimed at promoting and improving students’ professional and technical abilities, presenting the professional knowledge and skills learned by the students in a familiar, fast and precise form, and realizing the purpose of promoting learning and teaching with the competition and combining leaning and practice. It played a positive role in promoting the professional skills of SUCC students, the teaching level of teachers and the standardization of training courses.
