On September 9, the 39th Teacher’s Day celebration of Shanghai took place at the Shangyin Opera House of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Zhou Peiyuan, a teacher from the School of Architecture Environment Art, Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College (SUCC), was honored with the title of “Outstanding Teacher with Four Qualifications” (Exemplary Model in Teaching and Education) for the year 2023 in Shanghai. He was received by Shanghai’s municipal leaders and participated in a commendation ceremony.

From being a university teacher to a volunteer dedicated to popularizing architectural culture, Zhou Peiyuan has steadfastly upheld the initial aspirations and mission as an excellent CPC member throughout his three-decade teaching career. Over the past 10 years, he has diligently studied teaching methods and been dedicated to teaching. Early in 2004 and 2008, Zhou Peiyuan won the first prize of “Excellent Teaching Method” in Shanghai. He has also calculated many specialists for the architecture sector. Meanwhile, Zhou Peiyuan has long been engaged in popularizing architectural culture and offering volunteer services of architectural culture, gaining great popularity among students and the general public. He is committed to inheriting the culture of Shanghai, the patriotic and revolutionary culture of China, and the culture of the Jiangnan region, achieving fruitful results.

He has been devoted to social welfare volunteer services long. Since 2014, Zhou Peiyuan has been the head of “Regular Courses” for art education to the public in the “Enter the Art Museum” program by China Art Museum, Shanghai. In 2017, the “Enter the Art Museum” program, which aims at popularizing science, art, and cultural education, won the first prize of Excellent Teaching Achievements of Shanghai. In 2023, the program received the second prize of the Excellent Teaching Achievements of China.

As the ambassador for the “Stories of Shanghai Architecture” program, Zhou Peiyuan has been engaged in popularizing architectural culture and education long, aiming to guide citizens and students to experience Shanghai as a warm and worthy city to explore. He has also participated in special art education for intellectually challenged children organized by charitable institutions for many years and been involved in teaching and philanthropic donations for children with autism.

Besides, Zhou Peiyuan is active in voluntary teaching activities for rural revitalization. In 2020, he participated in summer camps at a middle school in Guoquanyan Township, Nayong County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province and the Jingwei Hope Primary School of Jiangxi Province, popularizing architectural art and science to students and sowing the seeds of art for children in remote mountain regions.

As education plays a fundamental role in China’s national rejuvenation, Zhou Peiyuan has been working diligently in education, striving to contribute to the prosperity of our nation. By learning from exemplary individuals, strengthening the construction of teacher ethics and style, and continuously fostering a positive atmosphere of respecting and honoring teachers, we will enhance the sense of honor and responsibility in cultivating students and promoting moral education. In the new journey of building China into an education power, our teachers have great potential and will hopefully achieve significant accomplishments.
