In order to implement Opinions on Accelerating and Expanding the Opening-Up of the Education Sector in the New Era jointly issued by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and other seven departments in June, 2020 and fully implement the education-related initiative of the Belt and Road Initiative, SUCC has actively responded to the “Internet +” Chinese language learning project initiated by the Vocational Education Commission of the Thai Education Ministry. With “Internet + International Education Cloud Platform”, SUCC is providing modern Chinese online courses for teachers and students of the universities and colleges directly under the Thai Vocational Education Commission, and offering them one-to-one online volunteer services of Chinese teaching assistance.

On July 1st, the Chinese language learning program of SUCC was officially launched. It coincided with the day when Prime Minister Li Keqiang of the State Council of China and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha of Thailand exchanged official letters to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Thailand diplomatic relations. In a friendly atmosphere of “Chinese and Thai people being close as family members”, the Chinese language learning program provides online courses for Thai students and further promotes the friendship between the people of China and Thailand.

Compared with the traditional class education that teaches Chinese as a foreign language, the online teaching based on the SUCC's International Education Cloud Platform is a new attempt in both the teaching method and content. The teaching program is mainly for Thai learners who are fresh in Chinese language, and will help them to understand Chinese language, characters, culture, etc., cultivate their interests in Chinese language and culture, and equip them with the simple Chinese-based communication skills such as greeting, self-introduction, and simple inquiries, which will lay a good foundation for their future Chinese learning. In order to better mobilize students’ enthusiasm for learning, every lesson is accompanied with a cultural experience activity, such as creating Chinese characters and paintings, learning to sing a Chinese Rap, etc., which makes the learning livelier and more targeted. In addition to daily teaching, in-class exercises and after-class homework, the TCSL (teaching Chinese as a second language) teachers of SUCC also answer questions online every Sunday to help Thai students.

The relationship between the nations lies in the closeness of the people, and the closeness of the people lies in the mutual affinity. People-to-people bond is the deepest, most lasting, and most fundamental interconnection between countries, and the exchanges based on language communication can undoubtedly enhance mutual understanding, thereby bringing each other closer. Since the China-Thailand cooperation program of SUCC has strengthened the friendship with Thai people through enrolling and training Thai students, establishing overseas branch with Thai friendly counterparts, training Thai teachers, and organizing student exchanges, it has been included in the “People-to-People Bond” project of the National Development and Reform Commission. SUCC will stay true to the mission and continue to move forward to deepen and expand win-win cooperation, exchanges and mutual learning with different countries in the sector of education, serve the Belt and Road Initiative, and contribute to building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind.
