On October 15, sponsored by our college and co-organized by AcaBridge.edu.cn, the International Youth Scholars Online Forum and the Forum on Occupational Development of Double-position Teachers through School-enterprise Cooperation was held in Fengxian Campus. Upon the thorough study and implementation of the spirit of general secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Central Conference on Talent-related Work, the purpose of this forum is to open the door of the college to welcome talents through deepening the integration of production and education for the introduction of professionals at a deeper and broader level. Wang Qingyu, director of the Talent Work Office of the CPC of Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Committee, Qian Li, the general manager of Shanghai area of Yonyou Seentao Technology Co., Ltd. a representative of school-enterprise cooperation, attended the forum and delivered their speeches. More than 50 high-level professionals and young scholars at home and abroad participated in the forum offline or through online livestreaming.

Centering around the specialty of construction engineering technology, this forum coordinated and linked the other specialties like the application of artificial intelligence, health and elderly care, and hotel management other specialties, and set up posts closely around the needs of discipline development, the construction of first-class higher vocational education and application for the upgrading to the level of graduate education. Aiming to attract a group of young and middle-aged scholars with excellent academic backgrounds and academic potential at home and abroad to come to Shanghai, this forum serves as a platform for exchanges and cooperation for outstanding young scholars at home and abroad through the form of academic exchange and cooperation on hot issues in the academic frontier, so as to welcome the outstanding young professionals abroad to come to the vocational colleges in Shanghai for innovations and entrepreneurship.

 At the opening ceremony, Chu min, Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College Committee, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of the University, he extended thanks to the CPC Municipal Education and Health Work Committee, the Municipal Education Commission and relevant enterprises for their strong support for the talent-related work of the college, and the young scholars worldwide for their trust and recognition of the college. He said that highly qualified teachers are the core competitiveness of colleges and universities. Aiming at the “14th Five-Year Plan”, the College will spare no effort in building a “Top college for vocational education” through “Strengthening the school with professionals of expertise”, so as to upgrade the college to an undergraduate-level vocational college as soon as possible. He expressed his expectations to see more young talents join Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College on the new journey to work together and forge ahead to realize everyone’s life ideal and value in the historical process of realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In his speech, Wang Qingyu fully affirmed the achievements of the college in adhering to the orientation of vocational education, deepening the integration of industry and education, school-enterprise cooperation, forming an integrated school running pattern offering “The education for secondary professional education, vocational education and undergraduate education” through “Academic education, skill training and competition of technical skills”, carrying forward the spirit of model workers (craftsmen) and promoting the ideological and political construction of the curriculum in recent years, and put forward that building a new international competitive advantage calls for the support form professionals, building a modern power calls for the talents as driving forces, and there is an urgent need for talents to empower the internationalized construction of Shanghai. He expected that Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College would spare no efforts in attracting professionals through the deepened school-enterprise cooperation and innovative methods for the recruitment of professionals upon its strength and fame as a collage of urban construction at the opportunity of being selected as the construction pilot of Shanghai first-class higher vocational colleges and upgrading to the undergraduate level vocational university.

During the report session of the main forum, the president, Professor Ye Yinzhong, made a keynote report themed “Enhancing the adaptability of vocational education and activating the strength of urban construction professionals”. He shared our efforts and exploration in the study of the adaptability of vocational education: the first is to continuously promote the optimization of specialty layout and enhance the adaptability of specialty setting to industrial development to coordinate and synchronize specialty setting and specialty connotation with economic and social development; the second is to improve the quality of professional training to enhance the matching between the supply of professionals and the social demand upon the concept of moral cultivation and skill training, strengthen the orientation of vocational education to cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talents, skilled craftsmen and craftsmen for the nation; the third is to strengthen the service capacity to enhance the contribution to the development of industry and enterprises and facilitate the college in scientific research and social services. He believed that the breakthrough to enhance adaptability is to deepen the integration of industry and education and school-enterprise cooperation, which should be regarded as the basic logic of the school's foothold and development and the only way for quality development. So we should deeply integrate into the construction of pilot cities and pilot enterprises for the integration of industry and education, and deepen the cooperation with small and medium-sized and micro enterprises, strengthen the construction of specialty (group), deepen the dual education through school-enterprise cooperation, so as to establish a dynamic mechanism of mutual benefit and win-win results and an implementation mechanism of dual coordination. We should explore the construction of the School of Industry to jointly cultivate high-quality “Double position” teachers through the courses and training bases jointly developed with industry and enterprises. He stressed that the key to enhancing adaptability lies in teachers. The college will always take the construction of the teams of teachers as a basic project, strengthen the platform construction to gather internal and external resources to establish a greater stage for teachers to display their talents.

Vice President Yang Guangjun introduced the plan for the development of the college during the “14th Five-Year” from four aspects, namely, the foundation for the development, the objectives of the development, the priorities of the development and the construction projects. He said the whole college will unite upon the consensus and make concerted efforts to unify ideas and actions to the objectives and tasks of building a “Top vocational college” of undergraduate education, so as to fully complete the task of “Double first-class” construction.

Dr. Ma Jianbing from Queen’s University Belfast elaborated on the type, development and application necessity of artificial intelligence. He stressed that the applications of artificial intelligence mainly involve big data, perception and recognition, robot and unmanned driving, among which it is most widely used in the field of big data. Presently, the fields of urban operation management, construction technology, medical and health care, logistics and commerce, finance and accounting are most closely related to the application of big data, while high skilled professionals with the mindset of big data are rare at the front-lines in these fields. The vocational education, with the closest connection with industry and enterprises, is bound to undertake the mission of cultivating professionals with the mindset of big data and application skills.

Dr. Fu Qiushi, executive Vice President of the Engineering Research Institute of Shanghai Construction No.2 (Group) Co. Ltd., analyzed the types, levels and ability requirements of professional training in vocational education through the explanation of the new processes and operation principles of the intelligent equipment created in solving engineering and technical problems in today’s construction field. In particular, he shared the path for the vocational education teachers’ participation in technical development and subject research in the field of construction, and gave a more accurate interpretation of deepening the integration of industry and education and the training of double position teachers through school-enterprise cooperation.

Dr. Deng Yibing from University of Massachusetts, Amherst shared his study, work experience, scientific research achievements and plans of career after returning home. The academic report themed Theory of the Soil Mechanics of Heterogeneous Granular Rock and Soil Medium made by Dr. Deng, elaborated on the research framework of heterogeneous granular soil theory, with the bulk density model established to consider the particle morphology and particle size distribution, upon which the corresponding compression model and critical state model are established to analyze the internal mechanism of particle size gradation affecting shear strength and dilatancy characteristics and establish a new stress dilatancy relationship. He also introduced the plan of further research on developing the constitutive theory of heterogeneous granular geotechnical media in the future.

At the subforum in the afternoon, the participating young scholars had academic exchanges with the secondary colleges corresponding to their majors.

On the occasion of this International Youth Scholars Online Forum, oriented at the introduction and training of double-position teachers in a manner upon the proactive recognition of the trend, the adaptability to the changes and the pursuit of reforms through the cooperation between the college and enterprises alongside the innovative approach of recruiting talents over the “Cloud”, Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College has become the first municipal vocational college in Shanghai to carry out activities for the exchanges among professionals through the new mode featured “Cooperation between the college and enterprises” and “Internet+”. Through online academic exchanges, the college will create a new platform with all-year-round services for academic exchanges and scientific and technological innovations.
